OREN PINHASSI

RESIDENCY: 3 JULY - 15 AUGUST 2019

EXHIBITION: 15 AUGUST - 15 OCTOBER 2019

During his residency at Castello di San Basilio, Oren Pinhassi produced a new body of work which was installed amongst the Berlingieri collection. Collapsing traditional categories and notions of architecture, nature and the body, Pinhassi’s sculptures and installations invoke public and private spaces more commonly associated with the social relations of the corporeal. The materiality of his work centres on a pigmented plaster and sand composite, which he uses methodically to painstakingly build up his objects. Whilst these objects exude a familiar sense of place, recalling modernism in their uniformity and concrete appearance, Pinhassi’s environments propose an altogether more fluid space - one in which rigid delineations no longer exist.

Oren Pinhassi (b. 1985, Tel Aviv, Israel) lives and works in New York City. He graduated from the Yale School of Art in 2014.
